Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah Tower Climbs Back Into the Global Spotlight

Saudi Arabia’s long-delayed Jeddah Tower is once again accelerating skyward, reigniting the regional race for architectural dominance as it pushes to overtake the iconic Burj Khalifa as the world’s tallest building.

The tower, which has now surpassed 100 floors and crossed the 400-metre mark, is expected to rise beyond one kilometre once completed, making it the first skyscraper in history to break the 1,000-metre barrier.

Construction resumed after years of delays, with developers now targeting a 2028 completion date. Positioned at the centre of Saudi Arabia’s broader Vision 2030 transformation agenda, the project is about more than height.

Jeddah Tower is designed to anchor a vast mixed-use urban district, combining luxury residences, hospitality, office space, and tourism infrastructure in a bid to reshape the Kingdom’s global investment image.

The renewed momentum also intensifies the growing architectural rivalry between Saudi Arabia and the UAE, with the Middle East continuing to dominate the next generation of mega-tall engineering and record-breaking development.

While Dubai’s skyline has long defined the region’s vertical ambition, Jeddah Tower signals that the competition for global attention is far from over.
