Former Dubai Zoo Site to Become 90-Home Residential Community in Jumeirah
The former Dubai Zoo site in Jumeirah 1 is set for a new chapter, with a 90-home low-rise residential community now being developed on the site of the landmark attraction that closed in 2017.
Investment firm Shamal Holding has appointed Dutco Construction for the project, which will be built around landscaped courtyards, green spaces and a central park.
The development is designed to retain elements of the site's character while introducing a new residential offering in one of Dubai's established neighbourhoods.
The project will include shared outdoor spaces and residential amenities, with the wider design focused on low-rise living, privacy and walkability.
Site preparation has already been completed, with construction now progressing. The redevelopment is also being accompanied by a 710-metre public art installation, Flora of Light, by Dubai-based artist Solimar Miller.
The series comprises 12 works depicting UAE flora and fauna and will remain on display for two years, turning the construction hoarding into a public-facing gallery while the new community takes shape.
The transformation marks a significant change for a site that operated as Dubai Zoo for 50 years before closing in November 2017, with its animals subsequently relocated to Dubai Safari Park.
The redevelopment adds another residential project to Jumeirah while retaining a visible connection to one of the area's most recognisable pieces of Dubai's recent history.
