Dubai Moves to Put Building Permits on AI Fast Track

Dubai is moving to accelerate the building permit process through artificial intelligence, as the emirate continues to digitise construction approvals and streamline development procedures.

The initiative forms part of a wider push to use AI and automated systems across government services, with the aim of reducing processing times and making permitting more efficient for developers, consultants and other industry participants.

The move comes as Dubai’s construction pipeline continues to expand. The emirate issued 10,776 building permits in the first quarter of 2026, while total built-up area increased 48 per cent year-on-year to 3.9 million square metres, according to Dubai Municipality.

Greater automation of approvals could become increasingly significant as development activity grows, particularly as Dubai works to manage higher volumes without adding the same level of administrative delays.
The shift also reflects a broader change in how Dubai is applying AI across the property and construction sectors.

The Dubai Land Department, for example, has already deployed AI to monitor property advertising, with its platform overseeing more than 279,000 listings and automatically modifying 29 per cent of monitored advertisements.

For developers, the focus is increasingly moving from simply digitising existing processes to using technology to make those processes faster, more automated and easier to manage.
