Could the Cost of Renting Bring More UAE Residents Closer to Home Ownership?
A Bayut and dubizzle survey found that 45 per cent of renters searching for property in the UAE have considered buying a home. Yet interest and readiness remain some distance apart: 18 per cent are actively comparing purchase options, while 26 per cent would consider buying once they have saved for the downpayment and initial costs.
Among those actively comparing options, 52 per cent cited plans to stay in the UAE long term. Meanwhile, 34 per cent said mortgage repayments and rental payments appeared comparable.
These findings suggest that a longer-term commitment to living in the UAE is encouraging some residents to reconsider ownership. A similar monthly payment may make buying more appealing, but the upfront cost remains a barrier.
The opportunity for the property sector lies in helping that interest become an informed decision. Transparent pricing, clear financing information and a fuller understanding of ownership costs could determine how many prospective purchasers take the next step.
